Araby, By James Joyce - 917 Words

Araby is a short story by James Joyce about a young boy who is infatuated a young woman who is the older sister of one of his friends. He watches her from afar and believes that his feelings are true love. He lacks the confidence to speak to her or confide in anyone else. The narrator speaks of her as if she were the most beautiful and wondrous human on earth, however, he does not realize that he is in love with the thought of her and not necessarily her. The narrator lives in Ireland as James Joyce did. At this time Ireland was deeply Catholic. Catholicism is usually strict when it comes to romance and gender roles, especially in the late 1800s or early 1900s. Magan s sister is older than the narrator and in a convent. Both she and the narrator are from religious family as the narrator goes to the Christian Brothers’ School. Dating was not necessarily an option especially at their ages. The narrator would look odd trying to befriend her. Their probably is a age gap between the of two or more years and they are of the opposite gender. Watching her from afar was the only thing the narrator felt he could do. He honestly could not really get to know her well, which led to just an attraction to her physical appearance and to his own imagination of her. The first conversation they truly have is her asking him if he was going to go to Araby. He is so nervous that he could not remember what he told her. Introduction The journal article Pathways To Aggression In Urban Elementary School Youth, studies and investigates the violence that is profound in the urban school district. The authors researched and examined the students to see if the violence from their environment was the cause of the children’s violence in school. Two hundred and fifty nine students were examined with the permission of parents to come to a conclusion. Nearly one hundred percent of the participants were exposed to at least one act of violence. Results showed that because of the violence that the students were around is what cause them to have posttraumatic stress disorder and attitudes towards violence. Problem and Purpose The problem that urban students are facing is the attitudes they have towards violence and the aggressive behavior that they have when they are in school. The purpose of the study is to examine the children and their behaviors to see where the problem is coming for and, is it the leading factor in why the children suffer posttraumatic stress disorder. Any particular areas were Americans are or where there are large groups of people inhibit. And yet this is not only Americas war it is a war that we are all receiving impact from. Many Israelis may feel that Americans deserve to be punished, and many are upset with Yasir Arfat, as a result of their anger suicide bombers feel that they need to take a stand for their cause at the expense of themselves as well as others primarily Americans. In order to create change The Israeli people need to take a stand to help stop the attacks on innocent lives our lives and the lives of those we love. March 18,2001 two Americans died as well as three others when two terrorists threw grenade s into a Prostant church near the American embassy, this attack was aimed at Americans, killing embassy employee Barbara Green and her teenage daughter. Many Americans feel outrage at the attacks that are currently taking place, however the attack with Barbara Green hits close to home two innocent Americans killed by grenades while visiting a foreign country bodies blown into undescriable bloody images. This is an outrage, and the Israeli people need to take a stand to help stop these terrorists attacks from happening, just as our innocent Americans are be killed, an Israeli can be harmed in the process. Is that what needs to happed before Israelis take a stand? After the attack on September 11th America had a tragic loss, the mass deaths of a wide rage of nationatalities were to be accounted for on American soil. We as a country have accepted our lose and have moved in, in hopes for peace in our society. And yet whenever we begin to feel safe there has been another attack on either on of our churches, or our people. Daily there are attempts being made to harm innocent Americans. When will you help to make the Attacks stop? Violence is all many know however peace has an overall justice that out weight the effects of violence. With Passover just under we were hoping for a peace treaty to come into effect, especially after the attacks killing two Americans on March 18,2001. However On March 27,2001 there was yet another suicide bombing in an Israeli hotel killing fifteen and wounding one hundred as guest began to celebrate their Passover dinner. Fifteen killed in an Israeli hotel. Why? One hundred wounded for what? In order to create change one much take a stand, Yasser Arafat must take a stand for the life of the Israeli people, for Americans and peace, As well as the group that has been linked to him the Al Aqsa Brigades. The bombing that occurred was one of the deadliest and having the most causalities wounding the elderly. Someones grandparents, and dismembering countless body parts stenching the air with the putrid aroma of charred flesh. Many have been targeted by the attackers however the ending result is always the same Death, Violent Death in order to set examples of the innocent. And yet there are threats being made to Americans on Easter in Italy, Italy where many American colleges have well students studying abroad. New York University has well over two hundred students in Italy in their program. Students who just want to better themselves, study, and practice their religion. So why attack them. It can easily become your son our daughter living life in fear while being far away from their home, and their family. Fearing dying in a foreign county due to a demonstration being made, an example being set. Make a Change. When is enough going to be enough? When will the fear that lies within the hearts of so many disappear, when will the vision of endless dismembered bodies play out in the minds of children? Children they are the future the key players of tomorrow. However you the Israeli people are the decision makers of today. Make a change, Take a stand.
